About Life Rolls on – Rhode Island
Waves for Change supports multiple surf related events and Life Rolls One is one of the pioneers in the promotion of adaptive surfing for those with disabilities. 2022 marks Life Rolls On 20th anniversary and Waves for Change is supporting and alongside Gnome Surf will host this inaugural event in Narragansett Town beach on Sep 24th, 2022. For twenty years, LRO has organized adaptive surf events across the United States for those suffering from spinal cord injury and other disabilities from injury and disease.
Waves for Change originated a series of events for athletes with rare diseases called Rare Surfs and supports multiple LRO events. These events are focused on using surf therapy for bringing those challenged with disabilities and debilitating diseases together, raising accessibility issue awareness, fundraising for research and providing an experience aimed at improving mental health for all. Children and families that have participated in past events deal year round with genetic diseases, neurological diseases, CF, autism, CP and other rare diseases such as Rett Syndrome and this event provides them a day to enjoy the beach, sun and waves with their families and other families facing similar challenges. Equipment utilized for this inaugural event would be utilized for multiple events throughout the year as well as shared with the URI Surf Therapy program.
