About Rare Surfs Event
Waves for Change initiated the Rare Surfs series of events in 2019 and after the pandemic pause, we hosted our 2nd event in 2022 at Carolina Beach on Saturday, August 20th, 2022. Waves for Change supports events utilizing surf therapy by bringing those challenged with disabilities and debilitating diseases together, raising accessibility issue awareness, fundraising for research and providing an experience aimed at improving mental health for all. Children and families that have participated in past events deal year-round with genetic diseases, degenerative, neurological diseases, CF, autism, CP and numerous others and this event provides families a day to enjoy the beach, sun and waves with other families facing similar challenges.
The event was a huge success with water expertise provided by the local surf therapy organization, Ocean Cure. Scout Clinical sponsored the event and provided logistics to our athletes/surfers and families.
